Maurice is a Lawyer in the Brisbane office of Ai Group Workplace Lawyers.
Maurice was admitted to practice in the State of Queensland in 1980 and has extensive experience in advising and litigating in a variety of areas of law in both State and Federal jurisdictions, including over 30 years dealing with employment law and industrial matters.
Maurice’s employment law experience includes drafting and advising on managerial and award employee contractual arrangements; advising on employment termination matters and conducting unfair dismissal and unlawful termination proceedings; advising on post-employment restraints; and conducting proceedings relating to alleged contraventions of statutory entitlements including underpayment and general protections.
His industrial relations expertise includes advising on both lawful and unlawful industrial action, employer responses to union entry to workplaces, union relationships generally, industrial dispute resolution, drafting and negotiating enterprise agreements, planning for contingencies in the enterprise bargaining process, workplace change management, redundancy, and flexible work arrangements.
He has for some years worked intensively with contractors in the construction and energy sectors, as well as with significant manufacturing businesses in the heavy engineering, steel, and rail sectors.
Prior to joining Ai Group in 2007, Maurice was the Brisbane Litigation Team Leader at the Australian Government Solicitor, where he advised and represented many large Commonwealth agencies in matters involving disciplinary processes, unfair dismissal applications, unlawful discrimination claims, reviewing and drafting workplace agreements, and management of ill or poorly performing employees. On many occasions, Maurice acted as advocate in tribunal and court hearings on such matters.
